LSZH Low Smoke Zero Halogen Materials, Something you should know

Low smoke zero halogen (LSZH, LSOH, LS0H, LSFH and OHLS) is a material classification for wire sheaths in the wire and cable industry.

LSZH wire sheaths are composed of thermoplastics or thermosets that have low smoke emissions when heated and do not contain halogens.

LSZH materials can reduce the toxic and corrosive gases produced when they burn. This materials are often used in poorly ventilated environments such as airplanes, train carriages or ships. Low smoke zero halogen materials are also widely used in the railway industry because there are high-voltage lines or signal lines that transmit the location of trains under the railway. The use of low smoke zero halogen materials also reduces the accumulation of toxic gases when the line is damaged by fire or short circuit.

In the railway industry or shipbuilding industry, one of the important requirements is to protect personnel and equipment from exposure to toxic and corrosive gases. In these occasions, low smoke zero halogen materials are required to be used on the outer layer of wires and cables.

LSZH is a low-smoke, halogen-free material that is environmentally friendly and has good flame retardant properties, but its mechanical properties are poor and its price is relatively high.
